I believe that what was meant was a ``transparency adapter'', a
backlight unit which allows transmissive (as opposed to reflective)
media (like slides, negatives and transparencies) to be scanned.
Not sure how well it works w/ microfiche though, never had occasion to
try it, but would imagine you'd need a pretty good scanner.
